Recognized as the highly charismatic contestant on Season Two of Project Runway, designer Nick Verreos is creating goddesses across America, bringing classic Grecian designs to the forefront of contemporary design. This global child is now home to roost, with a confluence of his Greek ancestors, Saint Louis birth, Venezuelan rearing, and coming of age in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As a teenager, Nick was always inspired by the fashion world which led him to enroll at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles (FIDM) where he received an advanced fashion design degree and where he met David Paul who was studying costume design. They found the perfect balanced in each other and became partners in life.
In 2001, Nick created his own line, which included his signature piece; a backless angel wing gown. His line of dresses was immediately bought by the high-end department store, Henri Bendel.
Not wanting to do it alone, Nick and David Paul became business partners, with the official launch of their label, ‘Nikolaki’ meaning baby boy Niko, which received media acclaim in Women’s Wear Daily, In Style, Lucky, Nylon and more.
After his line’s launch, Nick became a part-time professor, teaching technical sketching and draping/pattern drafting at his alma mater. Two years later, in 2005, he was talked into auditioning for the second season of Bravo’s hit television show, Project Runway; a beloved show with the MyCloset.com staff and its members! Within a few weeks of the shows airing, Nick was both fan favorite and obvious top contender, coming in fifth place. Thanks to his experience on the show he obtained the energy boost needed to revive his outlook on work and life.
Not wanted to rest on his laurels in 2006 Nick became a fashion expert and commentator on shows such as the TV Guide Network’s ‘Fashion Wrap up with Lisa Rinna’, ‘SoapNet’s Emmy Award Coverage’, MTV’s ‘The Hills’ and the WB’s ‘Crowned’. Nick also co-hosted the TV Guide Network’s ‘Fashion Team,’ covered the Winter Olympics for NBC and became a member of the Glam Squad on MSN.com’s Style Studio. He was a featured writer for US Weekly’s Fashion Police and maintains a blog for People.com, Bravo.com and many more.
In 2007, he teamed with the clothing store Windsor to design an exclusive line of prom dresses. Nick continues to design a yearly collection which he has presented during LA’s Fashion Week and at the first ever Islands of the World Fashion Week in the Bahamas. His gowns are a hit with celebrities like, Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Kathy Griffin, Marlee Matlin, and Patricia Arquette; who have all graced the red carpet in a ‘Nikolaki’ gown. All the while, Nick has continued to teach at FIDM and is now their official spokesperson.
Nick Verreos won the infamous Barbie Challenge,in which his designs were produced for the ‘My Scene Nick Verreos Barbie’ and sold exclusively at Toys ‘R’ Us (the Barbie doll quickly sold out and is now a collector’s item).
In 2008, Nick starred in the “Sears Grant A Wish” ad campaign and holiday commercial. ‘Nikolaki’ sold in over one hundred department stores and boutiques throughout the US, Japan and Latin America.
In May, Nick and David launched the NV Nick Verreos Brand, a collection of sophisticate dresses for the summer season. Making women feel and look great is Nicks primary objective for the NV Nick Verreos collection.
This new collection, inspired by the Amalfi Coast, is filled with vivid, bright pops of color and graphic prints. "Whether you are having a girl's night out or even going on a job interview, these dresses are meant to give you an ego boost. I guarantee they'll make you feel confident, stylish, a little glam and maybe even sexy.”
“David and I spent weeks working on the designs of the collection and edited it down to the amount we wanted to show. Subsequently, after we decided on the designs, I draped every single piece and did the patterns for it and not many designers can say that! David had his executive ‘touch’ on every muslin and every fitting and then our unbelievable seamstresses did their ‘magic.’ Nick adds his famous draping techniques that flatter every shape into every design, allowing every woman to have their own personal red carpet moment.
Strong, structured silhouettes and Body Con dresses are enhanced with embellished waist-bands and shoulder details. Grecian Goddess draped dresses and asymmetrical styles round out the collection, and give three-dimensional interest and sculptural detail to the line. Complementing their attention to design, Nick and David took their time in their search of finding the right partners for their launch of the first ready-to-wear collection they have created together. It took over three years of hard work until Nick Verreos and David found the way to transfer high-end designs into a day-to-day dresses.
The NV Nick Verreos collection is feminine and flirty, made for women who are not afraid to take style risks. With a variety of styles, colors, sizes, and price points beginning at $108, NV Nick Verreos is an affordable dress collection available at Lord and Taylor and Dillard department stores.
